The Vulcan truly is heavy armament. Named after the General Electric M61A1 Vulcan Gatling Gun, which is used on tactical fighters including the F-15, the Vulcan is a proven knife, and features VG-10 steel, a glass-reinforced nylon handle and one of the most powerful locking mechanisms in the world, the Arc-Lock.
Deployed with a Kick
The Vulcan features a pass-through lock-bar and blade kick, which open the blade with a simple touch along the spine of the knife.
SOG Arc-Lock, one of the most powerful locks in the world
The Arc-Lock uses a pivotal block that locks the blade in place, and reinforces this sturdy, ambidextrous knife. Best of all, this knife is tested to withstand more than 1,000 pounds of pressure on the lock itself. It is considered to be one of the finest locks available.
Low-Carry Pocket Clip
The SOG Vulcan product line includes a reversible, low-carry pocket clip. The clip protrudes from the butt of the knife, providing discreet and accessible carry. Plus, the clip is easily reversible for whichever side is most convenient.
Ergonomic, Lightweight Design Ensures Comfortable Use
Even if your knife is sharp, it's hard to make precise cuts when it doesn't fit comfortably in your hand. This knife's handle is ergonomically contoured with a textured handle to prevent slipping, and it's made with glass-reinforced nylon. Weighing 5 ounces, this folding knife is lightweight, easy to carry and inspires confidence.
This knife is backed by a lifetime warranty that protects against defects in manufacturing and materials.

What's in the Box
VL-01 Vulcan pocket knife with straight edge blade, glass-reinforced nylon handle, and reversible pocket clip.
From the Manufacturer
The General Electric M61A1 Vulcan is a 6-barrel 20mm cannon of the gatling-type. It fires standard M50 ammunition at 6,000 rounds per minute and is integral part of the armament of modern fighters such as the F-15, F-18 and of course the F-16. Our Vulcan is also formidable with a powerful strength of construction. There is nothing weak about the Vulcan. Take for instance our patented Arc-Lock. Or, the full steel liners encased in glass reinforced Zytel handles. The blade is a full .125" thick with spear point shape and includes our new kick deployment of the blade. Press on the back of the blade and the knife comes out fast. Reversible clip, Arc-Lock, and double thumb studs make for complete ambidextrous use.

this knife is spectacular
By D. Sroelov
i purchased this knife to replace an old knife that no longer holds an edge. before purchasing, i researched just about every name brand manufacturer i could find. reviews of spring assist knives, but too many people said the spring assist mechanism breaks. i was also not that impressed by stories of the knives opening all by themselves in your pocket. really didn't like the idea of sticking my hand in my pocket and belng sliced and diced by a three and a half inch razor sharp blade.
even without the spring assist, the blade can be realiably and easily deployed with a simple flick. once the ARC lock engages after the blade is open, it is going to stay open no matter what. no safety is required on this knife, and it realistically cannot open on its own. the clip holds the closed knife very nicely in your pocket. i use this for EDC. it's just the right size, open or closed, and doesn't get in the way of anything else in my pocket.
i originally considered the Vulcan Mini, but ultimately decided on the full size Vulcan. the handle of the Mini was about a half inch too short, so my pinky was hanging off the end of the handle. the full size Vulcan fits perfectly, so my thumb and all four fingers are securely on the handle.

Quality & Craftsmanship
By Jeffrey & Kali's Dad
Beautiful knife....I was lucky enough to purchase this from Amazon when price dropped to low $60's. Knife fit & finish is excellent, blade opens/closes very smoothly with a solid "click" (like any fine mechanism). You can quickly snap the blade open with index finger on the blade heel tab, or use your thumb on blade studs to control blade extraction (more fun snapping it open).
As previous reviewers mentioned, the knife is a bit large for typical "office" EDC. Even though my son's Boy Scout troop allows 3" blades, the blade can seem intimidating to people not use to knives. If you work in an outdoor setting, or in a trade where you're using tools daily, this won't be an issue, but for the general white collar office, I think it's a bit much (look at the excellent Spyderco Dragonfly, SOG Flash I or Kershaw Scallion for office use).
I carry this when I'm hiking/backing because the knife is really solid. Handle provides excellent non-slip grip and it's really EZ to open one-handed. I especially like the low-profile clip because I prefer pocket knives to be more subtle when carried. The clip allows the knive to sit deeper in your pocket with very little showing.
Interestingly, my blade might be a "second" because both sides are not ground exactly symmetrical (maybe that's why I got a great price). This doesn't affect the function of the blade, and it's not obvious when you look at my knife. All-in-all a beautiful knife, even if it's a bit bulky for EDC.

Not as good as I originally thought
By barry brown
I recently purchased the sog vulcan VL-01 and I love it. I own several other SOG knives along with many others from brands like Kershaw, spyderco, benchmade, and buck. The SOG Vulcan is my favorite out of all of these knives. Many reveiws say the VL-01 is to big to EDC, however I EDC mine and love it, it just depends on what kind of knifes you like. If you like bigger blades like I do then this knife is the perfect choice. It is similar in size to my kershaw storm II and I carried that knife for about 5 months. The Zytel handel on this knife is awsome, It is very finely checkered and makes for a grippy knife. So far the steel is great, it holds an edge great, I have not had to sharpen it yet so im not sure how it is to sharpen. Its nice to see SOG use a high quality steel, most of there knives use Aus steel, but they finally got it right by going with VG-10 for the Vulcan. Also with using the arc lock this knife opens just as fast as my SOG Flash II. If you are looking for a bigger sized tactical folding knife this is the knife to go with.
UPDATE: I have had problems with the pocket clip breaking, it is a fairly long pocket clip and is uncomfortable in the hand. I have had a problem with it snaging on stuff and breaking. Sog will replace these for free but I have had a problem with that too I have called back at least 4 times and still no pocket clip I have been waiting for around 3 months and it was supposed to take 2-4 weeks.
another update: I finally got my new pocket clip the other day and the next day it snaged on somthin when i was walking and it broke. For a hundred dollor knife this should not happen, I traded this knife for a spyderco, which in my mind is a much better brand. For less money you can get the spyderco manix 2 which is better in my opinion.
