Vortex Raptor 8.5 x 32mm Binoculars

(3/30/11) The review for the Vortex Raptor binoculars was left for us by Tom F. from Clifton Park, New York. Thanks for another great review Tom.

Outdoorsman Review:

When choosing binoculars the first thing you need to decide is the application. For my instance the appliction was purely archery. Sighting in and spotting hits on targets, more specificaly finding kill zones and eleven spots on 3D targets. For anyone interested in someday shooting I.B.O 8.5 magnification is the largest allowed. If your uninterested in that you can go as high as you want. However keeping in the I.B.O guidelines I wanted a quality 8.5 magnification binocular that was light and clear.

After hours of research online I found the Vortex Raptors. Vortex Optics has been touted for quality lenses and design at a price lower than the competitors. As I had read reviews for the Raptors and other comparable binoculars such as Alpen, Nikon, or Leoupold; they were very similar. I decided to try the underdog and purchased the Vortex Raptors….. I was not dissapointed.

The vortex raptors came with a comfort neck strap, lense covers, cleaning cloth and case. The craftsmanship seemed excellent and the initial clarity was super. After following the directions to focus the lenses in to my eye, the next step was to try them on 3D which was their original intent. I was pleasantly surprised. With the Vortex Raptors instead of approximating the eleven line I knew exactly where it was. They were clearer and easier to focus than even the 10X magnification binoculars I had before. I shoot 3D with two to three other people. All of them were amazed with clarity and definition of the Vortex Raptors even though the magnification was lower than theirs.

The price is ultimately what sold me on these binoculars. At about $130.00 they are priced much lower than the competitors and as described still deliver a beautiful product. Target from 6 yards all the the way to 40 are clearly seen with extreme precision. The eye relief adjustments are perfect for glasses or not. No more closing one eye to see your target. And with an uncoditional warranty you really cant go wrong with these binoculars. Any problems notify Vortex and they will make it right.

A great product at a great value. Hope this helps anyone intersted in a good 3D binocular.

(1/3/11) The review for WI’s IR5 was provided by Shaun S. from Pittsfield, MA. Thanks Shaun for the review.

THIS CAM HAS HELPED TREMENDOUSLY THIS YEAR. IT IS SO GREAT TO BE ABLE TO HAVE A CAMERA IN THE WOODS CAPTURING PICTURES OF THE UNKOWN WITHOUT ANY EFFORT FROM US HUNTERS. THE WILD GAME TRAIL CAM WAS AN INEXPENSIVE CAMERA THAT STILL HAD QUALITY OF THE HIGHER PRICED CAMERAS.

I NOTICED WITH THIS CAMERA I WAS GETTING SHOTS OUT TO 40 YARDS AND THAT WAS PRETTY IMPRESSIVE. THE CAMERA TAKES A NICE CRISP PICTURE AND IS PRETTY QUICK TO CAPTURE THE PHOTO. ITS BATTERY LIFE IS GREAT AND THE INFRARED IS AWESOME TO HAVE BECAUSE IT DOES NOT SPOOK ANYTHING. I WOULD GIVE THIS TRAIL CAM A 7 OUT OF 10. ITS GREAT FOR THE LOW INCOME HUNTER, YET STILL HAS FEATURES OF THE HIGHER PRICED TOP END CAMERAS.

PS AND IT HELPED ME BAG MY FIRST BOW BUCK A MONSTER 9 !!!

Outdoorsman Review:

The review for Brunton’s Echo Binoculars was provided by Chris H. from Fulton, IL. Thanks again Chris for your review.

These binoculars were a gift I received a year ago (so not sure how much they were purchased for). They are the 8×42 full size version. I have been very impressed with them! The glass is extremely clear and is a joy to look through. The dial zoom is easy to use and the twist-up eye relief is a nice feature. The binos have a slip proof rubber coating on them to help protect them as well keep them in your hands. Also included are drop-down lens covers, a neck strap, and a carry case. Binos are waterproof and fogproof. I like that they have a 5 year warranty, but I’m not sure what other manufacturers offer to know if that is great or only good. Retail online is $343, so you won’t find them at the dollar store! These are far and above the cheaper, older binoculars I have had for years, and they seem to be pretty rugged also. I give them 2 thumbs way up!!

Outdoorsman Review:

(1/3/11) The review for the X6c was provided by David M. from Ocean Springs, MS. Thanks David for this very detailed review.

After having much trouble with a competitor’s trail cams, I purchased 2 of the Wildgame Innovations X6c trail cams to give them a try. I must say, I personally am very happy with their performance.

The image quality is very good, both daytime color and nighttime IR. Daytime photos, color and clarity is very good. The nighttime IR photos are of course black and white but again, very clear. The field of view is also very good.

The motion sensor also seems to be adequate although I did have a couple deer where I only got the back half. To test it out I walked through the “trigger” area at different speeds and found that the camera operated great each time I walked through so all I can figure is that the deer was moving at a pretty good rate. I am very satisfied with the sensor.

Ease of setup and ease of use is VERY easy and understandable. This to me is one of the most important aspects. I would pay a little more for a camera that is a little easier to setup and operate.

The only negative I have found with this camera is that picture quality during that 10-15 minutes each morning and evening when it’s too dark to take a good quality color photo and too light to get a good quality IR pic….the camera seems as though that both functions may have operated during this short period for the pictures taken as the (color) pictures were very whitewashed and way overexposed to be practically undiscernable. As I said though, this happens only for about a 10-15 minute period after daylight but prior to sunup as pics before and after this period were very good.

As for oveall value, price vs. quality, I would say these cameras are very good.

Outdoorsman Review:

The review for the Primos TRUTH Cam 35 was provided by Mike C. from somewhere in the US. Thanks Mike for your review of this game cam.

I have purchased one of these cameras and have likes and dislikes. The price is right and the picture quality is good. Awesome daytime pics,..Night time pics of course are black and white and at times blurry.

My major dislike is that the camera is loud and has spooked deer. By loud I mean the shutter on the cam itself. I have a lot of pics of deer looking straight at the cam and many more of the deer running from it. It seems like the deer eventually get used to it but it could only take that one time to scare a big guy away.

For the money I would rate this a 4 out of 5.

Manufacturer’s Specs for the TRUTH Cam 35:
