Buy Big Dog’s Foxhound Ladder Stand
Outdoorsman Review:
The review for the Foxhound ladder stand was sent to us by Chris H. from IL. Chris is becoming a top contributor on OutdoorsmanReview. Thanks for another helpful review Chris.
These ladder stands were on sale at Menards during the first part of archery season for $75, so I bought one. At 48 lbs, it isn’t as heavy as a couple of the other ones I have, which is a plus when toting any distance at all through brush and heavy timber. Height is 16′ which is adequate and if that isn’t enough, you can buy additional 4′ ladder sections. Holes for the pins that hold the ladder sections together are considerably larger than the pins, so they rattle when climbing the stand. Stand is sturdy though and the adjustable ladder support bar is nice/solid. Seat is the typical cloth covered hard foam, so nothing terribly special there (same with the standard ratchet strap).
What I have discovered that I absolutely hate is the foot platform size – extremely small; wearing winter boots, there is barely room to stand up and stretch, let alone stand up & turn to the side to draw a bow. I know it’s a basic, cheaper ladder stand, but the foot platform size is definitely something I will be looking at in future purchases. Overall, it’s a decent stand for a decent price & can probably get real cheap on season closeout right now, but I just can’t get used to such a small platform (just a few inches all the way around would make a world of difference).
